The Platform

Otayo is the leading event ticketing service in Mauritius, covering concerts, festivals, and live performances across the island. The platform had a strong web presence but no native mobile app. Users were buying tickets on a phone through a site not built for one.

The Challenge

Adapting a web platform to mobile is not a layout exercise. Purchase flows, event discovery, seat selection, and account management all behave differently on a small screen, and users expect them to feel native. The mobile app was designed independently from the website, with its own navigation logic and visual rhythm, rather than derived from it.

Design Decisions

Dark mode was chosen for a specific reason: event photography is cinematic and high-contrast, and a dark interface amplifies that instead of competing with it. Navigation was restructured around thumb reach. The purchase flow was shortened to reduce drop-off between discovery and confirmation. Micro-interactions were added at key moments: ticket selection, cart confirmation, successful checkout.

The Flow

From landing to ticket in hand: a user browses or searches events, selects ticket type and quantity, adds to cart, and completes checkout. For users who prefer purchasing in person, an integrated map surfaces physical selling points nearby.
